1961-1983: Druggist

Early 1960’s through 1983: carved and painted decoys for use in the field and as decorative objects.

Late 1960’s: Studied with painter, Christopher Gorey, a graduate of the MFA Boston School of Fine Art. Created landscape, seascape, shooting and upland hunting scenes.

1968: Exhibited, Art Center Gallery, Ogunquit, Me. Sold “Grouse Covert” Oil on Panel.

1970: Exhibited, "Preseason Workout", Jordan Marsh Juried Art Show, Boston.

1971: “Preseason Workout”, oil on panel, Published as cover of Yankee Magazine , November 1971. Again published in calendar, in a cookbook, and in an appointment book.

Early 1970’s: Studied the etching process. Self taught.

Mid 1970’s: Made stringed musical instruments: Classical guitars, Baroque guitars and clavichords.

1979 to present: Founded and still operating Will Kirkpatrick Shorebird Decoys, Inc., Design and marketing both reproductions of classic, old shooting decoys and new, original work using the authentic carving and painting techniques of old decoy makers.

Late 1970’s: Matriculated MFA Boston School of Fine Art. Printmaking, two courses; Figure Drawing, one course.

1984-1997: owned and operated “Whimbrel”, 33’ Sloop, Cape and Islands area. Painted many small watercolors on location.

1992-present: Attend weekly figure study groups. Use watercolor and oil mediums.

1992-present: Represented by Hudson Art and Framing. Watercolor and figure work.

1992-2000: Represented by Post Road Gallery, Marlboro, Ma. Watercolor and figure work.

1997-1999: Painted with Barry VanDusen, Princeton, Ma. Watercolor, oil painting mediums. Bird studies, landscape.

2002-Present: Member Carriage House Painting Group with mentor, Ed Stitt.

May 2003- Exhibited with Newton Open Studios Group affiliated with Carriage House Painters.

September 2003- Was subject of feature article in The Art of Angling, (Vol 2 Issue 2) a prestigious sporting periodical. My oil paintings, water colors, and wood carvings were illustrated along with an extensive bio.

December 2003- Exhibited paintings in collaboration with 6 fellow painters called The Carriage House Painters, at the Newton Free Library.

April- June, 2004- Woodcarvings and Paintings were included as part of the exhibit: “The Art of Angling”. Held under the auspices of the University of New Hampshire Museum and under the direction of Bill Ross.

May 2004-2006- Exhibited at Newton Open Studios With Marion Dioguardi’s Carriage House Painters.

December 2005 Exhibited Concord Art Association Small Originals Show.

February 2006- Exhibited Member Juried II, Concord Art Association. Piece, “If Fishes had Wishes,”  Awarded one of five cash prizes.

June 2006- Exhibited Juried Show. Post Road Art Gallery. Marlboro, Mass. Entered two watercolor figure paintings.

October 2006 NOS Gallery Show. Exhibited six Plein Air Seascapes

October 2006 Participant Folk Art Festival Marlborough. Mass.

November 2006  Exhibited Juried Show, Carvings and Paintings at Red Door Gallery, Dover, Mass.

January 2007 Exhibited “Codman Beeches” at Concord Art Assn MJI Members Juried Show. (Sold)

March 2007 Commissioned painting: “Skaters, Walden Pond.”

May 2007  Sold paintings and carvings in Newton Opens Studios with Artists Seven. Displayed 35 paintings and 40 carvings. Sold “Still Life c Violin”, O/C; Pointer, W/C; three Watercolor set; “English Game Cocks”.

October 2007 Exhibited 25 oil paintings at The Folk Art Festival, Marlboro, Ma. Sold three Cigar Box Paintings. Sold three Seascapes.

Developed and improved Cigar Box painting rig

November 2007 Exhibited Newton Art Association Fall Show. Sold two Cigar Box Paintings.

December 2007 Exhibited Planet Bronze, Bozeman, Montana. Smalls show. Showed five  “cigar box” paintings. “Still Life c Snipe,” “Hunters in Snow Squall,” “Mushrooms,” “Crows,” and “Montana Sky.”

February 2008 Exhibited Concord Public, 30 day juried show with Mike Milicia, Photographer. Sold one painting. Sold "BarnSwallow"

February, Concord Art Association Member Juried II Show, 2008 Carving accepted: "Of Frogs and Fairies"  A a leaping frog catching a fairy with original poetry on base. 

May, 2008  Newton Open Studios  Artists.

June 2008 Exhibited Concord Art Association, Coleman Gallery. One month, invitational show.
